Whether I’m consulting on a dance work, writing an essay, or performing said pieces, my greatest pride comes from the moments when my words actually interact with someone else's mind or creation. I love seeing how folks move through the worlds and systems that shape them, and I pull those threads together through critique and storytelling.
As a whole plethora of identities, I aim to bring a layered, intentional gaze to everything I touch. My work wants to honor that multiplicity—and offer the kind of open, thoughtful seeing I know I crave and believe others deserve.
My Story
As an undergraduate student, a grant sent me alone to La Paz, Bolivia, where I studied queer nightlife in Spanish and wrote my first published research article. A year later, I traversed the Benelux region, visiting more than 18 art and history museums to ask how cultural institutions shape what we understand of a nation and who we think we are in conversation with that. These “one-off” projects quietly rerouted me from law or business toward a scholar‑artist life. Yet, I realized that the straight reporting of Anthropology and Psychology, the areas I studied in undergrad, weren’t enough for me; I needed the systematic and the messy, the critical and the tender, to live side by side.
Now my practice lives where dance dramaturgy, creative nonfiction, and critical inquiry collide. Ekphrastic existence is always the goal in these forms and process: to stuff theory, beauty, and transformation into a shared container and shake it until something new spills out.
I describe myself, or ideal self, as a scholar-artist because I don't think creation, the domain of the artist, can be extricated from inquiry, the realm of the academic.
